Paper and Such Challenge!

Time for another challenge at the Paper and Such blog. This one stumped me for a bit. No color??? Seriously? Well at least it was only for the main image ;-)

Just in case you are thinking that black is a color... technically, it's the absence of color :-) For this card, the snowman and the sentiment are stamped on acetate. The acetate layer is adhered to a layer of white. I used a stencil and Perfect Pearls sprits to create the subtle background on the white. I added some stickles to the brads for a little additional snowy sparkle! Thanks for stopping by and come on by the blog and play with us!

The issues with Papercrafting

Let me just say.. Christmas is an excellent time to get into Papercrafting. Many people send Christmas cards, sometimes it is the only time said people catch up with other people.I got into papercrafting right around Christmas a number of years ago. I started off with a couple of all around great stamp sets and a couple packs of paper from SU. I mean really, once you have one stamp set that has a holiday stamp, a happy birthday stamp, a thank you and a congratulations.. what more do you really need? You can make any type of card with those... Yeah right!I, and I think some others, have a compulsive need to add to my stash. I remember that we used to have stamping days at my SU consultant's house. I started out bringing a clear tote that contained all my supplies.. then it grew to two... now it's to the point that there is no way I could ever take all my supplies somewhere.. so what do I take, what am I going to need? Perhaps I should trim down some so that I don't need to make these difficult decisions........ NOT! I have, and I will admit this, enough Christmas/Winter stamps to make individual cards for people I know for YEARS to come. Why is it then, that I eagerly await each new year's Christmas/Holiday line... what is it that FORCES me to spend money on more Christmas sets? Why is it that I decide in August what I think my cards should look like.. until I see something else and that would look so cool?The reason I bring all this up, is that I had a coupon for Michael's where from 4-9 pm yesterday I could get 25% off my entire purchase. Hmmm.. I am in a secret santa exchange (I have everything for that)... I am hostessing the winter VSN (already have everything for that)... but, but...So I went. My secret santa recipient now has a little more bling... Did I need anything I bought? No! Do I want it ALL? YES! It's time for another challenge at Paper and Such! This week's challenge is to create a card or project that uses the paper piecing technique. Isn't the snow angel PERFECT for piecing?? I paper pieced the wings, scarf and hat. I used blue copics to add a little color to the body of the snowman. The brim of the hat has ultra fine white flower soft for some texture. Snow Folks

Oh my goodness!! I have the honor of being Guest Designer for Paper and Such this month. Today, I'm highlighting the new set Snow Folks. This is such an AWESOME set. I totally love it~ I decided to go a little bit of a different way with this set. I, yes me, I, on purpose, made a 3-D item. Can you believe it? I found this tutorial for the box on splitcoast. It's a 2-5-7-10 box. I used acetate for the circle in the center so it became a little sneek peek box. Isn't the Snowman ADORABLE!! Perfect accent for this sweet little chocolate gift box.

I stamped the box with some of the snowflakes from the snow folks set. I stamped the snowman with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. He is colored with Copics and then I added some stickles to simulate the snow on his arms and hat. I fussy cut him out. One of the awesome things I love about this set is that the arms of the snowman are thick enough to cut around without cutting right through them.

HYCCT and CPS

Cool sketch huh?? This is the Card Positioning systems sketch 239.

I quite enjoyed this sketch. It gave me the perfect avenue for creating another card for the HYCCT challenges. This challenge was about friendship. We were challenged to use pink and ribbon to create a card that celebrates friendship. I don't know about you, but many of my friends give me strength. You are so Kind

I was very honored to be asked to make a sample card for my friend Lori's HYCCT challenge. I have to admit, I breathed a little sigh of relief that I wasn't going to use pink.. lol. Lori's challenge is a color challenge: "The colors Green and Yellow represent Hope and Brown represents comfort (we all want the strong ladies fighting this battle to be!). " So in honor of all the ladies full of hope and needing comfort, I inked up the sunflowers from Gina K's Autumn Splendor stamp set. I have used this set A LOT this year...

I pulled out my sheets of sketches and I found this CPS sketch.. Isn't it awesome?? The image is colored with, let's all say it together, COPICS. I stamped the script in Desert Sand and then stamped the flowers over it and colored. The circles were made by using two standard circle nestabilities. I added the raffia for the country/autumn feel.

More Cards of Hope

It's a late post today... Boy has it been rough around here. Thankfully there is some light at the end of the tunnel for today. Still, I think it's going to be a KFC dinner tonight. :-)

Check out this card I made last night for the HYCCT Challenge, Real Men Wear Pink. We were tasked with making a masculine card BUT we had to have pink on there somewhere.

I really hope this is masculine enough. I pulled out Mugs and Kisses (Gina K). I also used a CPS sketch as a basis for the card. The mug is paper pieced as is the spoon. there are two pink layers and the spoon also has pink in it. I also added a little pink to the sponging on the sentiment panel. Really simple as you can see.

A Pink kind of Day

Happy Sunday to all of you! I hope you all got to spend a little time playing and creating with your stamps, ink and paper yesterday. I was able to make a couple of cards AND have a lovely picnic in the mountains with my family. It was a really lovely day. Today I am showcasing the 2 cards I made for the Hope You Can Cling To challenges at Splitcoaststampers. You might be sick of them by the end of the month, but these cards that are being made by so many people are really going to bring a smile to someone's face... I just believe it!

The first challenge of the day had us creating pink animal cards. I opted for a pink teddy bear. I just love these Milton stamps from Wild Rose Studios. I used my favorite pink copic combo (R81, R83, R85, R89) for the bear. My daughter requested that I use the pink glitter pen (Spica) so I added some pink glitter to Milton's nose. The image panel is sponged with a little pink ink in order to hide the smudge from my fingers... didn't work perfectly, but I guess it's proof that it is a homemade card ;-)

The third challenge of the day was entitled Encircled with Love -- the challenge, should we choose to accept it, was to create a circle card. At the last VSN I was introduced to these telescoping cards.. They are so much fun.. so I went with this idea for my circle card. This picture shows the card open. Once closed, it looks like a bunch of circles stacked on each other. If you can't read the quote, it says "Once you choose hope, anything's possible - Christopher Reeve". I felt that quote was perfect for this challenge. It may not be a card to send to someone, but perhaps it could be an encouraging decoration for a wall....

Now, I'm looking forward to the rest of this month's challenges. It was good to get back into my stamp area! Thanks for stopping by!

World Cardmaking Day!!!

Happy Saturday! Happy World Cardmaking Day! Isn't it just the coolest that we have a whole day to celebrate papercrafting? I just love it!! Today marks the start of another AMAZING challenge as well... Hope You Can Cling To. The HYCCT challenges are being posted on Splitcoaststampers. This is a month long challenge to make cards... Today kicks off with 3 challenges.. from here on out there will be one challenge per day. The really cool thing, it that this is also a card roundup. All these cards are being made to send to Breast Cancer unit at MD Anderson. These cards will be used by patients to send to family, family to give to patients, staff, etc... Think of how many smiles can be generated by our love of our craft!

In honor of the first day of HYCCT.. and since I don't know today's challenges yet, I am showcasing a card with pink poppies. Easy peasy card here. I colored the image with copics and I used some suede pink ribbon and Say it with Crystals to accent. The inside sentiment is a simple "Thinking of You"!

Blast from the Past - September 2011

Welcome to the Taylored Expressions Blast from the Past Blog hop for the month of September. I'm fairly new to Taylored Expressions, but boy have I fallen in love! This month's theme is birth and birthday both to celebrate Taylored Expressions 3rd birthday and the beautiful new addition to the Taylored Expressions family, Madelyn Grace. Happy Belated Birthday Madelyn!

I chose to make a birthday card that also included butterflies. To me, butterflies have always been a symbol of new life , so in that way I was able to combine the birth and the birthday themes. I used my Memento markers to "thump" the ink on the stamp. I like the thumping because it gives a bit of a watercolor look without making the paper all wet :-) I used the same technique, with a little more blending to stamp the butterflies. I cut out the butterflies adhered them and added some twinkles. After adding the sentiment, I added a little rhinestone sparkle with some additional twinkles and that was all she wrote on this card. :-) As an aside... make sure that you are holding on to the container really well when you are moving from one twinkle color to another... if you don't... well... you might be on the floor with a magnifying glass and your embellie gellie trying to pick them all up ;-) A CAS card, but this would be a good fit for someone who enjoys the beauty of nature or who wants to "Discover their Wings". VSN Technique - Faux Leather

Happy Monday!! Today I'm showing a VSN card. For the last VSN, the challenge I hosted required the use of the Faux Leather technique. There were a number of different ways to actually accomplish this. I chose to use the masking tape technique that Beate created a tutorial for on SCS. I have to say this was a lot of fun!! I used a Taylored Expressions stamp set. I made my faux leather using a scrap piece of cardstock I had on my table. I ripped up the masking tape in little pieces and placed them on the cardstock randomly but making sure to cover the whole piece. Then I covered the masking tape with color by using direct to paper with several different inks. I stamped the cover of the wagon on the scrap paper and cut it out. Then I punched the star out of the same scrap. I adhered the wagon cover onto another stamped image of the wagon (paper pieced). I really love the way it turned out.

A Beautiful Winter

Howdy! Another WRAK card to send to Operation Write Home. This challenge was to make a winter card and to use our dies or punches. I have been itching to use this new Northwoods stamp that I recently acquired (sounds better than bought doesn't it ;-) ). I also broke out my Labels 18 and Standard Circle Nestability Dies. I fell back on one my favorite things to do.. which is cut out portions of the image and layer them on top of each other... The middle and top images are popped up with pop dots.

A winter card, for me.. isn't a card until it has something to represent snow. This time I opted for Icicle stickles, which I put on the tree limbs. In deference to OWH regulations... I only used the stickles on the small top level of the image... less glitter to worry about :-) In retrospect, I probably should have sponged the background.. but a lesson for next time. The sentiment comes from the Gina K winter Stamp TV kit, Winter Wonderland. The inside of the card has the whole sentiment: "Winter waves a magic wand over this world and behold, everthing is softer and more beautiful. "

Pumpkin Time

I didn't mean nighttime.. I mean it's time for all things Pumpkin... pumpkin pie, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin bread.... I love pumpkin!! Today's card serves a dual... well triple purpose. This card uses my take on the CPS sketch for this week. The sketch is below and you can see how I used the base of the sketch but then kind of went off on a tangent :-)

This card is also for the WRAK challenges at Splitcoast. One of the Falling Leaves Challenges was to create a Thanksgiving card that includes an image of a pumpkin. The third purpose also coincides with the second. The WRAK challenges are posted as inspiration for us to make cards that will then be donated to Operation Write Home. OWH sends boxes of cards to different military groups so our troops can have the ability to send a nice homemade card to their loved ones. OWH's mission is:

Supporting our nation's armed forces by sending blank handmade greeting cards to write home on, as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them.

As far as the card is concerned... it's fairly simple. The curry background has leaves stamped with versamark. The image is colored with... SHOCK... Copics. I am obviously stuck in a raffia kind of mood. For some reason, this year, I just feel the need to use raffia..everywhere it seems :-) I changed the circles on the sketch to an apple, which I also associate with fall. The DP is my newest favorite Bo Bunny Forever Fall. That paper pack is simply DELISH!!

The Christmas Season....

is near! I really enjoyed working with this week's Sweet Stop Sketch.. but as I think I mentioned I was bit ambivalent about my card.. so I decided to try another one. I like this one much better. Lucky for me I had a Christmas image around... now I can officially say that I've started working on my Christmas cards :-) This card used the Season of Love set by Sweet n Sassy Stamps. I love silhouette images... I mean y'all know I love to color, but there is something so cool about silhouettes! I inked the image with Versamark and then inked over it with Memento Potters Clay. Once stamped, I covered it with clear embossing powder and VOILA.. Potters Clay embossing without a special color powder! I also added some raffia at the bottom becuase it made me think of hay in the manger. I am submitting this card for the Ribbon Carousel challenge this week as well (RCC19). The challenge this week is anything goes :-) That is one of my favorite types of challenges. After I added the raffia, I wasn't sure if that counted as something that comes on a spool so I added a dab of gold and white wired ribbon.

A Little Summer with a little Fall

Given the Fall Blog Hop.. I was still in an Autumn mode. So, I combined two challenges for this card, CPS and Ribbon Carousel.

The sketch for this week really intrigued me..

I really wasn't sure how I was going to tackle this one... and then... I got a package from Gina K. The cone flowers spoke to me as a great image for this card. The flowers are actually pieced on the main panel and they are colored with Copics. I added some Sakura stardust clear and some crystal stickles to add a little bling on the card. In that same package, I received a pad of Echo Park DP. I Love the colors in that pack, so you'll see one of those sheets used here. The half circles are cut with Big Scallop nesties. In the spirit of this week's Ribbon Carousel challenge I added a bit of brown bakers twine to the burlap ribbon and on the panel behind it. The sentiment comes from an older Gina K set, Friendship Blooms.

Now on to a little inspiration.... Today, I decided to go with, what I consider, a non-traditional Fall color scheme. I usually reserve blues for winter, but I saw this gorgeous DCWV paper and was inspired!! I combined this with a new to me fold that I found on Splitcoaststampers. It is called the Joy Fold. This was a lot of fun - so thanks for the tutorial Beate!

The little bit of brown paper peeking out is actually some divine SEI Velvet paper... The stamping is actually direct to rubber using my Copics (B95, B99). I colored directly onto the stamp and then spritzed a little rubbing alcohol on the stamp... I kind of like the result. It looks distressed. You can see in the close-ups that I stamped a leaf on the leaf die cut and sunflowers under the sentiment.

I also added some of the sunflowers on the inside of the second flap. They are in the lower right corner.. so there is still room for a handwritten message.

Speaking of autumn/fall... I am soooo happy that Pumpkin Spice is back at Starbucks :-) I always feel that life is just a bit better with a Venti 2 1/2 pumps Pumpkin Xtra Hot Chai Latte.. I know say that 3 times fast.... so what are your favorite fall treats? This is another DTGD card.. I decided to a little funky country with this card. The decorative panel was made using square nesties to cut out the material... then it was hand stitched together and put on batting to resemble a country quilt... I hope. the rooster, well what's the country without a rooster....The oval around the rooster is paper pierced.

Hi there!! Happy Thursday! This is another of DTGD cards I made for this year. This was a 4 challenge card. I just love this image and imagine that this would be a great card for a graduation or for anyone embarking on an adventure.

The blue panel, or what you can see of it, was distressed by spritzing with water, wrinkling the paper and going over it with some Tim Holtz distress ink. In retrospect, I should have shown a bit more of that blue panel... live and learn :-) One of the other challenges was to use a map on our project. I had this great paper that I had used for the pirate VSN. In other words, don't look too closely at any of the print or you will think it doesn't really match the sentiment or the image :-). The image was stamped with Memento ink and colored with.... wait for it..... Copics. I also sponged the sky in an effort to make a Theresa Momber like scene! My last little touch was to add some twine, which I think just goes with a boat image. I restamped the image and a little dragonfly on the envelope to add a little whimsy. I always forget about decorating envelopes, but it's so easy and makes a statement even before the recipient sees the card.

Howdy peeps! Today's card is a double challenge card. I made this for the current challenge at Paper and Such. This challenge was to use a farm animal. I combined this card with this week's Card Positioning sketch.

I don't know about all of you, but sometimes my kids just seem to take over life. Sometimes it seems like they rule the world or would like to give it a try anyway. I thought this card would be a cheeky, fun little way to remind myself and a couple friends that we "Rule the roost" and we should make sure we take a little "me" time every once in a while!

I know it's been awhile...again. But the good news is that between DTGD and VSN, I have gotten a bunch of cards made! Today I'm going to share one of the cards I made for DTGD this year. This one card encompassed 6 of the Dirty Challenges. It was a sketch challenge, with a sketch designed by Suzanne Dean. I included distressing for the challenge form cmf1216. Julie challenged us to use Kraft and Knightrone challenged everyone to use 3 different types of embellishments on one card. Deb wanted us to use handmade embellishments, which I was also able to incorporate. Last, but not least, gbedwright challenged us to make a card that used products, colors, embellishments, or techniques that use the letters of your name. This one took me a little while and I think I pushed the envelope a little bit, BUT I came up with this:

WOW! I am so touched that I was selected as the Friday Featured Fan for the CPS Sketch Blog. I LOVE working with Sketches and this blog gives me a new sketch each week to work with! Sketches really give me a jumping off point for my cards.

Ok--corny I know... I can't help it!.. I got my newest order from Paper and Such this weekend and just had to make a card with the new set I got, Poppies. I thought I would use it for a second card for the Paper and Such Challenge. I had to try another one, because I was not overly thrilled with the last one ;-)

I did use an image this time, but I still think that the sentiment is definitely the main focal point. I stamped the poppy image directly onto the DP. The sentiment is stamped on a Nestie from the Fancy Tags 2. I used another tag from the same set to layer behind the sentiment.

The current challenge over at Paper and Such is to make a sentiment the focal point of your card. This is the first card I made. I used the sentiment from Song in My Heart. I also got to break in my new to me Nesties -Lattice Rectangles. Can you tell I love my nesties? My friend Lee was going through withdrawls this week because her CB broke... If there was ever a reason to have multiple cutting machines THAT is it! The sentiment was stamped with versamark and then the ink. Once stamped, I used clear embossing powder to heat emboss the sentiment.

I love Sunflowers. They are just such a pretty flower. When I saw this week's CPS sketch and the fact it was being sponsored by flowersoft... I knew I had to incorporate flowers! The card I came up with is CAS, CAS, CAS...

Please pretend that you can see the gorgeous sunflower stamps that are covered by my less than stellar use of the flower soft :-). I took the sketch below and made it into a 1 layer card. The sunflower stamps are from the Flowersoft set Flowers and Foilage series 1. I used the Autumn Flower Soft on the petals and Meadow in the center. The sentiment is from Gina K's Bold and Beautiful stamp set. I inked the words separately with a Memento Marker -- and stamped them in the locations of the back panels of the sketch.

I've been cranking out some cards.. it's meant some late nights, but it's fun!!! Granted, since I've actually been creating, I've forgotten to update the blog... I know... strange...

This is a card I made for some of the Dare to Get Dirty challenges on SCS. This card actually covers 4 different challenges. My little snowman is covered in Polar White Flower soft. The snow man himself is 11 separate pieces (I think). It's one of the Cut and emboss folders from provocraft... let me tell you.. I have never been so happy for the quickie glue pen.. It was perfect for those teeny tiny pieces. His eyes are pearls, nose is twinkles, mouth is rhinestones. His hat , arms and pipe are colored with Copic Spica pens.

I was really scared of trying to make a center-step card that I found on SCS, but it was easier than it looked and it's such a fun little fold. I'll have to re-use this one for sure!

After much deliberation and mind changing.. DD decided she wanted to have Ariel, her favorite princess...this week, on her birthday invitations. Mind you, this is after I spent more money than I cared to, to get Hello Kitty party favors since it was going to be Hello Kitty... *sigh*, *smile*.

So, we are having an Ariel party with Hello Kitty favors.. that's just the way it's gonna be! Anyway.. I borrowed DD's Ariel stamp for the invites. I colored her with copics and then used nestabilities lacey circles (my FAVORITE) and standard circles to pop up the image. Easy Peasy... and she was happy with them, so I guess alls well that ends well :-)

Quick post this morning. I have been SWAMPED at work.. unbelievable.

Last week I had a chance to make a card using my new Waterlily stamp set from Paper and Such. This is such a fun image to color and it has some beautiful sentiments.

I colored and cut out both the flower and the lily pad. I kind of bent and fiddled with the outside petals of the flower in order to make it really look like it was popping off the page. I used opaque white copic paint to make the doodles around the flower panel and I sponged some Summer Sky and Sweet Plum ink to give some additional depth.

Isn't he fun?? This is Bucky from the brand spankin' new Hot Shots line at Paper and Such! He comes with one other sentiment that says "Happy Birthday, you old bird". Being from the south and living in the west, I see lots of opportunities to use this guy for all the ranchers and farmers that I know :-)

I used the SCS sketch challenge from yesterday for this card. I also chose to use the oranges out of the Paper and Such inspiration piece to highlight mr. rooster. The image is colored with Copics... LOTS of Copics.. When I was finished I was surprised how many I used. The top layers are popped off the base.

Sketch Challenge

Another sleepless night means another card for the blog. I used the SCS sketch challenge for today to make this card. It gave me an excuse to break out my new release Gina K stamps again... so it really wasn't a hardship :-)

The base is plain Ivory cardstock as is the extra layer on the inside of the card. The DP panel is 1 1/2 by 5 3/8. I embossed the peach layer using the woodgrain template from Taylored Expressions. I kind of thought the woodgrain would go well with the vine and nature theme. I used silk ribbon and linen thread to add a little texture (and another layer ;-) ) My DH pokesfun at me and tells me it's all about how many layers there are :-)

The image panel is also ivory cardstock. I sponged it with Memento Cantaloupe, Angel Pink, Tangelo, and Bamboo Leaves. I was going for early morning, I'm thinking it might be a little too heavy.. but it'll work for today. I stamped the corner vine with Bamboo Leaves and then stamped the sentiment in the same color. I stamped the vine again on scrap ivory cardstock. I colored the leaves using YG63 and YG67 copics and a little Mint Copic spica for the veins in the leaves. Then I cut out the leaves and pieced them onto the main image panel. That main panel is popped up from the base.

Paper and Such Inspiration

Today's card is for the Paper and Such Inspiration challenge. I couldn't sleep last night so I finally got up and stamped. So, this is one of those 1 am creations. I also used the CAS sketch this week as inspiration. As usual with my inspiration type cards, the card is very literal to the picture. I used the colors and the subject of the picture (ribbon and buttons). You can see the picture below. This is an easy peasy card, but I like it's simplicuty. I stamped off the flower before stampin on the main panel. I stamped the sentiment in Tangelo, which ended up being a bit too orange, but I was afraid it wouldn't show up if I stamped it off as well. I'm hoping to get another card made for this challenge just as soon as I get my order with the brand new stamps from the Paper and Such stamp line!!.. I can't wait.

Butterflies

Hi there!! I am enojoying a rare couple of hours at home in silence! YAY! so I was able to break out the paper and make a card! This card today is a quadruple challenge card. Lucky for me, these 4 challenges all fed the inspiration :-)

There is no stamping on this card. I used the sketch from Card Patterns

This was a fun sketch. When I first saw it, I struggled to think what in the world I could do so I started glancing at some other challenges. The inspiration challenge on SCS today was to use the Posh Vintage site as inspiration. As I glanced through the site I happened upon this dress with a beaded waist panel. The beaded waist immediately made me think of the 4 lower panels on the sketch! VOILA!! The panels on the sketch are squares of card stock interspersed with pearls to recreate the beaded feel of the waistband of the dress.

As I continued my searches.. I came across the Just Us Girls technique challenge for this week.

The challenge is to make a card incorporating a cardstock button. How cute is that?? Buttons... dresses... bingo! another match. Last is the matter of color. I know that I want something monochromatic since the dress is mostly beige and gold. Our Creative Corner provided that inspiration... It's a White PARTY!! Perfect.

And that is how my card today came together. I was able to break out my newly ordered butterfly dies from Taylored Expressions and use some of this fun lattice ribbon that was a gift from a friend. All in all, it's been a lovely hour and half! :-)

Scenery... Oh my~

Wow, it has been a looooooonnnggggggg week. Note to self.. don't volunteer for special projects at work. Oy~

Today's card is another stab at scenery a la Theresa Momber :-) Have I mentioned that I love her cards? :-)

For this card I used liberal amounts of my Memento Inks. I used Summer Sky, Danube Blue, Paris Dusk and Tuxedo Black for the sky. For the moon, I took some scrap paper and used a circle nestability to create the circle. I used the negative as the mask and sponged the moon using Cantaloupe. For the water, I used Bahama Blue, Danube Blue and Paris Dusk. The light house is colored with Copics, cut out and paper pieced on top of the original stamped image on the main panel. I really wish that the sentiment had embossed better, but it works. The stars are made with a white gel pen. I used a Copic spica for the lighthouse light.

I hope you like... I'm going to try to get back on this weekend to add a few more details :-)

USA Inspired

Tonight I am so tired. I also think I need my head checked... I spent a few hours in my craft area and didn't make a card. Instead I filled up a large garbage bag with, well, garbage. I started a second bag and took a bunch of paper that I had around over to my kids daycare. I still can't belive I parted with paper... but it does clear up space for new :-)

This card combines 2 challenges. The first challenge is the Paper and Such challenge. Paper and Such challenged us to make a card using Red, Blue and Kraft (I snuck some white in there and hope it is ok). The second challenge is the Ribbon Carousel challenge. Being the weekend of the 4th of July, the ladies at Ribbon Carouselwanted us to submit cards inspired by the 4th of July. Red, White and Blue are certainly inspirational to me :-)

I used Gina K stamps from one of the Stamp TV kits. Once I stamped the boat, I decided to try to be creative with my twine. The twine on the boat is supposed to represent the ropes of the sails... not sure how close I really got to that. The image panel is popped up with pop dots. I added a panel of white on the inside of the card and stamped the boat again at the bottom right to add a little something to the inside. I hope it shows the 4th Inspiration and does justice to the great combo chosen at Paper and Such.

Wow, it's been a while.....again. In all fairness this should have been posted 2 days ago, but first I forgot to take pictures.. and then I just forgot to post. I used to be able to remember things, I promise... Anyway... I combined a couple of challenges for this card.

The first challenge is the CAS challenge from SCS for this week. The challenge was to use Red, Black, and White on a cas card. The second is the Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger. I took the image of the vase with the flowers as my inspiration for this card. My card uses the border from Vogue Vases as my "table". Obviously this card isn't as involved as the inspiration... but I like it and it only took about 15 minutes to put together :-)

Pastel Inspiration

In the nick of time, I have been able to get a card made for the Paper and Such Challenge! Whew! I had to wait until my new Wild Rose stamps got to me :-)... I really don't need another stamp company obsession, but given that Paper and Such is starting their own line of stamps, I may be in some serious trouble ;-) I am also using this card to enter in the Ribbon Carousel Challenge for this week. This challenge is a new one for me!! YAY- I love new challenges!! This week's challenge is to use your favorite coloring medium and to use ribbon, of course. Now, I'll give you 3 guesses as to my favorite.....nah, way to easy :-) Obviously I had to use my Copics!

For this Paper and Such challenge, is to use this picture as inspiration:

When I look at the picture, I saw gingham and pastels.. so that is what I went with. A closer look showed flowers so I figured Milton with Lily would be an ideal image! I used a number of different copics on this image. The bear uses E21,E23,E25,E51,E53 and R20. The Lily uses R81,R83,R85 and R89. The stem and leaf were colored with YG11, YG13 and YG17.

I actually made it to my stamp area last night. I was so excited... it still took a little too long to get the mojo flowing, but at least it still exists somewhere. Challenges are an awesome way for me to trigger that mojo. Las night I decided to tackle the Just Us Girls challenge for this week. I have not broken out my SU colors in quite a while, so I figured this would be a good time. I used a Mojo Monday sketch, #179, to give me a little more creative juice!

This card uses Red Riding Hood, So Saffron, Bermuda Bay (for my aqua), Kiwi Kiss and I threw in some Neutrals Ivory (hope that is ok). I also got the chance to break out the newest 1 free with 3 stamp set by Gina K, Elegant Elements. I used several nestability sets as well: lacey circles, standard circles and the pennants. I also added some Sakura glaze pen to the image, but I don't think I captured it well in the picture.

Well, sickness and life have interfered with the stamping lately, but hopefully I'll get back on the wagon this week. :-)

This is an easy peasy Congrats card. I like it, because I think it is elegant enough for an engagement or wedding, but simple enough that it could really serve as a card for anything (except maybe a baby.... )

I stamped the romance stamp in the corner with Versamark and then heat embossed using gold and iridescent ice embossing powder. The sentiment is stamped in metallic ink and heat set. See, easy peasy!!

Hooray for the USA!

I came home to some new toys last night!! I LOVE getting new toys. I just had to play. I decided to make a card that salutes our troops. I have many friends that are active duty military and reserves. I want them to know how much that I appreciate every single one of them and their families. Some are state side and some are deployed, but they are all protecting our freedoms. I know that no matter what position they are in, in some way they are all putting their lives on the line, so that my family can live in peace and enjoy the democracy that we do. So, THANKS, to Greg, Michael, Curt, Stan, Scott, Lee, Kerry, Claire, Joy, Kristin and to all members of our armed forces.

This card uses the latest Taylored Expressions sketch and since it is a TE sketch I used the brand new released TE stamp set, 4th of July Wreath. I also got to use a Taylored die for the first time. I really really like the transparency that is provided with it. It sure saves me a TON of paper :-)

I don't know about you, but I have a rough time finding the appropriate things to say sometimes. I like this sentiment for those types of occassions.

For this card I used the sketch from Just Us Girls. I used some metallic paper by Spellbinders. The stamp set is by PTI. I also took the opportunity to use the Fancy Tags by Spellbinders as well. I want to thank the JUGs challenge team for helping me practice my CAS cards as well. :-)

Sew, Sew, Sew

Monday's Stamp TV challenge was to use sewing on a card or make a sewing themed card. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am sewing impaired... so I chose to use faux stitching on my card. I did actually have this card made on Tuesday..but it looked AWFUL.. trust me... I went home last night and salvaged it, and frankly am pretty pleased with the results :-)

The rose is colored with Copics R35, R37, R39, V99. The rose embellishements were airbrushed with Copics R83 and R85 and I sponged a little cantaloupe and Angel pink around the rose to add a little depth. The faux stitching was done by piercing the paper and using an SU Soft Suede marker.

A very Fergus birthday

Since I was in the masculine birthday mode, I decided to make another using the Cardpatterns sketch for this week. Introducing.... Fergus with Cupcake! Fergus is another one of my Wild Rose Studio stamps from Paper and Such. He wasn't in my first order, I must admit... dinosaurs are not my favorite as I've always found them difficult to color. However, I saw so many cute cards that people have changed my mind. I'll just have to learn dinosaur colors and that's that! LOL

I pulled out some DP that had some dinos on it for color inspiration. I *think* it is Paper Studio, but I cut it up before I remembered to look at the back. (Bad Alison). I'm really liking the grass green and sweet mango combo as well, so I went with it again. Boys like colors.. right? The image was stamped on white, colored with copics and cut out. Little Fergus has popdots underneath to make him stand out a little more. In case I run into a girl who likes dinos... I added a little sparkle to the cupcake using a Copic Spica pen. Hope he brings a little smile to your face, he sure does to mine!

Gina K Designs is sponsoring the Card Positioning Systems challenge this week. This is a totally fun sketch!! When I saw the sketch... and flipped it.. I decided it would be perfect for a birthday card that I need to make for a classmate of my daughters...I used Tami Mayberry's Oh Boy set. I just love this set of clean images. I chose some "out of this world" dp from the All about Boys mat stack. That picked my colors for me :-) I stamped the rocket on white cardstock, colored it and cut it out. I used some crystal effects for the spaceship window and a button that I picked up at a craft store as a little extra accessory! The rocket is popped up from the panel. The flame behind the rocket has some sparkly gel pen on it, but it's hard to see in the picture.

Whew! I placed my order for the new GinaK release. WOW, it is an awesome release.. I had to pick and choose... One of the challenges was to make a black and white card. That's it, no other colors allowed. I love black and white, but I usually add some red or silver.. but what the heck, I'll give it a shot. I used the Card Patterns sketch and I added a frame for the challenge from Our Creative Corner.

SURPRISE! I actually really like the way this turned out!

Hee hee! I just tend to giggle when I see these Wild Rose stamps... They are just too cute! They stamp well and are so much fun to color. My friend Julie sells these at her store Paper and Such. Anyway, this is Milton with Daisy, isn't he just too much? I colored Milton with copics (surprise, surprise.. right?) and followed the layout for the second Paper and Such blog challenge.
I also used the Tuesday Trigger from Moxie Fab World as an inspiration on this card. The colors of the pyrex picture sort of called to me.

As you might know.. I have "issues" working with bright colors, so I saw the orange and red as a real challenge for myself. I also noticed that there was some patterns and brown/black included on the table, so the color scheme was born! Once you have the sketch, the image, and the colors, what's to stop you :-) I added a little texture to the brown panel with an impression plate and I made a flower to represent the flowers in the design on the pyrex as well.

Sympathy

Sympathy cards are NEVER fun for me to make...I like to try to have a small stash so I don't really have to make them as needed. So, thanks to one of the challenge blogs, I have been able to add another sympathy card to my little pile.

This is a combo of 3 challenges. I colored the brad in the center of the flowers with my copics so it would match. Other than that, I tried to make this card a little bright without being obnoxious..hopefully that worked!

Challenge Time

Every once in a while, I get the urge to try some challenges so that I can get some mojo flowing. Today would be one of those days :-)

This card is way outside my comfort zone. I don't usually use bright colors... but having kids, I'm gonna need to learn! I used copics to color the images by Taylored Expressions. I just fell in love with the images in this set when I saw it on the site. This is actually one image and all 3 cars are connected, so it's really a train... BUT that didn't fit the sketch challenge. I split the image into 3. So now you know why the poor little sheep looks like he is flying in the air.. LOL

I got the color combo form the Just Us Girls challenge blog. It's neat to be able to combine challenges and see what you can really pull out of the box. This week's challenge was to use purple, blue, yellow, green, orange and red. Now I don't know about you, but that color combo just screamed spring to me...and voila!

Lastly, I used the recipe challenge from Critter Sketch Challenge to help me finish the card. I didn't follow the directions in the recipe exactly.. but I wanted to mention them becuase I did use the recipe :-) -- The challenge recipe was: to use 3 different solid colors- 2 buttons and 1 ribbon... so you see not exactly..but the inspiration is there!

The challenge was to combine tough and girly. I figured that a soft cuddly bear and some pink would add some girly to that mean ol' pirate. Is It Moxie Fab??

Well hello. Today is my first try at a Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger challenge... I've seen and followed these Moxie Fab ideas for a while, but finally decided to bite the bullet and try my shot. This week's trigger is Royal Fun!

As you look at this picture,there is an awful lot to be inspired by. I went for the obvious... LOL

I went with the colors yellow and pink which are intended to showcase the yellow cake and the pink on the icing. I chose to use a criss-cross card to represent the pennants on the cake.

and in a slightly more obvious reference, I stamped a slice of cake on the bottom of the insert.

So what do you think? Is it Moxie Fab worthy?

Hi there! It's a good day. It's spring in Colorado! With spring comes butterflies... hence the card I'm showing you today. I made this for a VSN challenge to emboss vellum. I dry embossed the vellum panel on the side with a butterfly stencil. I also, heat embossed the vellum layer of the main image butterfly. I really like the way the butterfly looks like it is about to take off! This is really a fairly CAS card... easy peasy to put together even with the fun techniques!

CAS, CAS, CAS... it does not get much easier than this. The card is supposed to represent my dream. Well, I have a lot of dreams, but it would totally be a dream to be in a cabin looking out on this view... dontcha think?

The image is just a sheet of DCWV designer paper. I stamped the sentiment, attached to the base and voila! This is like a 3 minute card :-)

It's nice to know that Blogger is back up now. I didn't realize how much I needed my fix in the mornings. I had a little more oomph last night so I whipped up another card. This card features Mia, from the Wild Rose Studio line of stamps. I also got this cutie from Paper and Such.

I used some rhinestones on the cupcake. Her dress and bow are paper pieced and the rest of her was colored with Copics. I did use a little distress ink on the yellow panel to darken it just a touch so it would match the DP a little better. Thanks for stopping by!

Today's card is my extreme princess card. I had to borrow the stamps from my daughter. First she told me I couldn't borrow them but after a "mom" look, she reconsidered as long as I promised that I would clean them after I used them.

The stamps were clear stamps that I picked up somewhere. I tried to make this as pink and sparkly as I could. It was created for a VSN challenge about "your first love". Today is my friend Lee's birthday and some of her "posse" have gotten together to celebrate her with a blog hop!

There is so much that I can say about Lee that I really don't know where to start. I guess I can start with the fact that I am very lucky to have been able to know Lee. She is one of the sweetest, truest people I know. Lee's creativity is a constant inspiration to me and I know to others as well. Lee is always ready with a smile or a smilie, as the case may be. Suffice it to say that Lee is a very special person and I am thrilled that I can help celebrate her on her "YOU" day!

For Lee's birthday card, I tried to incorporate many of the things that Lee loves. I decided to try my hand at a distressed card look. I used my background stamp from Cornish Heritage farms. I stamped it lightly on the Ivory cardstock. I tood the card stock and crumpled it all up.. that was hard. :-) Then I used the Tim Holtz distress ink pads and light ran it over the crinkly card stock. I actually like the way this card came out. Obviously I couldn't go totally distressed because that would be way to outside my box. ;-)

Key to my heart

One of the VSN challenges was to make a card with a kitchen/food theme. There were bonus points for using a key on the card. When I read the challenge, my mind immediately flew to one of my favorite chefs! And what goes better with a chef than wine and cheese!! The chef's kerchief is colored and his pants a paper pieced! I found this adorable charm that had a key on it, so that became the main course of this meal!!

Love is… many things to many people. There are so many different kinds of love i.e. true love, friendship love, familial love, goofy love, serious love… any of these can make your heart sing! So, what is love to you?

Spring is Here

Hi there peeps! Here is a new card... *Shock and Amazement* --
In all actuality, this card is a standard A2 size and has oval shapes. Obviously my camera angles are messed up :-) I have to work on that some more. Anyway, this card is for a color challenge for the CMC Birthday Challenge. We were supposed to use purples, yellows and cream/white

The Copics I used were V00, V12, V15, V17, V99, Y13,Y15, Y19, YG11, YG13, and YG17.

I'm still working on my light sourcing as well. The goal on this card was to show the light coming from the middle and top of the card. I paper pieced the center using DCWV Latte Mat Stack. The sentiment panel is popped up with glue dots.

Monochrome - Love card

Seeing Stars!

This challenge card was a tricky one. The rule was you could only use 2 layers of cardstock. A lot of people understood that to mean a 1 or 2 layer card. I played the odds on this one and got a 4 layer card that still met the requirements. The background was made on Vellum (not cardstock). I have a star stencil and I used the Copic airbrush system to add the color. That airbrush system is sooooo much fun!! The third layer is felt (not cardstock). Cardstock, Vellum, Felt, cardstock! Voila!!

Hello again.. I think I'm getting back in the groove a little! YAY me! Today's card features a color combo that was very new to me. Cherry Cobbler, Kiwi Kiss and Regal Rose. I have to say, when I looked at that I was STUMPED! I finally got it in gear and came up with this card!

As you can see I used various punches to add detail to the card. I also colored the pearls so I could stay completely true to the color combo. All in all not bad, but I don't this is a combo I will turn to again and again..

Illumination

My tribute to teachers who illuminate the lives of their students...The challenge is to create a luminaria. I chose to go with a teacher theme. In this case, I thought that the designer paper was to thin to stand up to the luminaria challenge, so I adhered the dp to a piece of heavy duty card stock. Then I scored the cardstock in the appropriate places and ran it through the big Shot with the Apple nestabilities from Spellbinders. I added the border at the top at the very end. I think it came out ok.. I still need some practice though!!

Hi there! This card was made to showcase shaped cards. In this specific case, I sure wish I had the Grand Calibur and some Grand Heart Nesties.... but I did what I could :-) I got this awesome velvet paper from Susannas Custom Art and Card Design. I used my heart nesties to cut it out. I added the rhinestones for some bling factor. Honestly, this is not my favorite. The idea that was in my head is hiding in there somewhere, but it's not obvious.. LOL

A Vision in White

Hey there!! Not so long between posts this time. I've been very busy, but at least there was some time for creating in there. In a continuation of Mini VSN and VSN cards, (which will probably take the rest of the month;-) )... here is a vision in white. The challenge was to use an image that was entertwined. What better image than the entwined hearts from the ODBD set.

Obviously, this is a very simple card. I used White and Shimmery White Cardstock. The image is embossed using iridescent ice and I used my very used Bow Easy to make a pretty bow for the top. Now, if only someone would get married so I would have someone to send this to.

This little cutie is for the challenge that asked us to paper piece our hearts out. We are supposed to paper piece 2 different parts of the image. I chose to piece the dress, the bow, and the stool cushion. I used some lace on the background for a little girly effect. Hope you like!!

Secret Santa

I'm someone's secret santa. I know that my person has received their package. Part of the package had to include an Ornament. I chose, not sure if this is good or bad, to make the ornaments. I used glitter it and glitter to fill the ball ornaments...The snowflake is made using a cardboard snowflake. I spray painted it silver. I used my Cuttlebug snowflake die to cut the red snowflake using foil paper. I used scor tape and glitter to make the rays and lastly, I used a dimensional snowflake die cut in the very center. I hope she likes them ;-)

WRAK Card

I got this awesome image through WRAK. This is one of the Penny Johnson images that she designs for Stampavie. Isn't it just precious? I had so much fun coloring and making this card. The image is colored with copics. The back layer of the main image is velvet paper. I found the velvet paper at Susana's Custom Art and Card Design. I LOVE it! Just bought more in facr. The reindeer antlers are covered in fun flock, the nose uses a spica pen and I use Stickles for all the snowflakes! All in all a really easy card that has a little texture :-)

Engagement

Oops, I've been awful about updating again. At least it wasn't quite as long.

Today's card is an engagement card for one of the sales reps I work with. He met this lady in June and they are engaged and getting married... awfully fast, but he is as giddy as a school boy. I wish them all the best!

Honestly, I had something more formal and weddingish in my head when I went into the stamp area. Just goes to show that you never know what you are going to end up with as part of the creative process. I dug out one of my old SU sets. The image is colored with copics, go figure. I colored over the sand with a Sakura stardust pen and then added a little smooch spritz to simulate the sun on the sand. I am awful with sun rise and sun set, etc... so I took the easy way out and just sponged the background in blue, pink and yellow. I decided to add a little distress ink to the edges. Since I am not proficient, I went with my lightest color, Antique Linen. As I was sponging, I used a scrap piece of orange cardstock that was lying around. I really liked the way it looked with the image, so I went with it! SHOCKING!! I really didn't intend to use those colors, but if it works, it works! I really ended up liking this color combo. I wanted to add more embellishments, but I figure since this is going to the male of the couple, I would leave it as it was.

Acetate -- Who knew?

Ok- a little later than planned, but a project nonetheless. I saw this project on flower-soft tv. I love listening to the accents :-) It looked really cute, so I decided to try for myself. I made this card a 5*7 though I will show you tomorrow how it will work as a regular A2 size as well. I will ask that you ignore my very bad effort at adding a little color on the inside.... oiy!

I used Nesties to cut out the circles. The acetate piece is actually one size larger than the opening in the base. Then I used those same nesties, nested, to create the white border. I adhered with flower soft glue, but any glue that will dry transparent would work. The center image is one from Just Rite stamps. It is adhered with mini glue dots and colored with copic markers.

Just Rite stamps are just perfect for this card because they are the perfect size and the sentiments fit so nicely! The sentiment is also adhered with glue dots and since it's the same size it covers all the adhesive! The paper is Basic Grey. Thanks for stopping by!

Stampscape - Spotlight

Today's card is one I made a while ago. I always have trouble with masculine cards. I also want to be one of those amazing people who work wonders with scenery. Practice, Practice, Practice... someone needs to tell my kids that I need time to practice ;-) Someone sent me some stampscape images to play with. I decided that this would probably be good for a masculine card. I hope the woodsy, cabiny feel comes through even though I used *gasp* ribbon!!!

My first Magnolia

This is my very first Magnolia image. I had to draw a mouth on her though. I still can't quite get used to the images with no mouths... She is called Witchy Tilda, but I thought she sort of looked like a pilgrim too, so I went with a fall theme. She was so much fun to color. I also got to use the wonky squares nestabilities. TGIF to one and all. I hope you are all feeling better than I am. I think I caught a bug from my husband... (that meanie :-) ) Today's card is using an Elisabeth Bell image that I got from Susanas Custom Art and Card Design. This image is from the Never before seen section. When I saw it, I had to have it. I'm weak.. I know. I colored the image with Copics on Neeah cardstock. I used copic spica pens on the candle holder. I used Shimmerz on the candle and Twinkiling H2Os on the snow and ice. Another Christmas card

Happy Thursday!! Thank goodness it's almost the weekend. This training class is really messing up my schedule. Today's card is a combination of two challenges. The Critter Challenge for this week is "No Color" or in other words only neutrals. I went with browns and cream and white. I pulled out one of my old SU stamp sets for this. I really love this image. The sentiment is from a different SU set. Since the sentiment is a line from the Messiah, I went with the music dp background. The second challenge is the sketch challenge from Our Creative Corner. This was a fun one, but a little difficult at the same time.

Sketch - Christmas - STV

Today is a CAS Christmas card that I made for the StampTV Sketch challenge from last week. Although it's hard to see, the white panel is clear embossed. I used some snowflakes and the word "joy". The dove is gold embossed in what I hope is the center of the panel :-) The dp is Basic Grey and the ribbon is from Michaels. I used the bow-easy to tie the bow, I love the bow easy!!!

Colorful Mojo with Friends

Challenges. I suppose challenges are supposed to be difficult, or they really wouldn't be challenges... Whew! This weeks color challenge from StampTv really threw me for a loop. Pink, Brown, Teal and Orange. Pink, brown and orange, no problem. Teal, brown and orange, no problem..but all 4? THAT was a challenge. I happened upon the Mojo Monday sketch for this week and a friends blog card and EUREKA an idea was born! Big shout out to Lori for the inspiration. She doesn't even know she inspired me.. LOL!

Still, I don't think this is going to become my go to color combo, but I think I eked it out! I used 2 different patterns of DP in between the solid colors of card stock. The little piece of pink (all I could fit in) is cut using one of the piercebilities templates from Spellbinders. There isn't any embossing or piercing, obviously, but I liked the shape at the bottom. The image is colored with copics and I used 3 different color buttons for the center. Thanks for stopping by!

StampTV Sketch

This card is for the StampTV Sketch challenge for last week. I think I need some help in the sponging arena... somehow my "sand" looks a little too dark in spots. I loved the colors together. The kraft with the ocean mist just looked so calming, so I had to go with the sea theme. I used the Spellbinders impressabilities plate (shells) on the top section of the ivory panel. The bottom was scored for a little added dimension. I think I may have gotten a little layer happy in the middle. There are 6 layers of rectangles and the 3 oval layers. Overall, just looking to make a nice birthday card that would work for just about anyone! TFL!

Good Monday morning! See what happens when I take a weekend off? Monday post is late, at least for me... These two cards were made for the 2-fer challenge from the WRAK Labor day challenges. The challenge was to use the same sketch and make two birthday cards.. one for a boy and one for a girl. Again, I decided to practice with coloring. I chose two images, different companies, both designed by Elisabeth Bell. I love her people images. This card was also made using the critter challenge sketch from last week, which I forgot to upload to the challenge blog... and the OCC challenge to use numbers or letters on your project.

This image is from Whiff of Joy. It's Oakley. I originally had him sitting on a tree stump, but it made the image too wide, so you can just imagine him sitting on the stump. Honestly, as I was coloring him, I was thinking he was Irish..have you ever done that? I mean something like giving you images a background? It may just be a little of my eccentricity.. LOL! I've been reading some books by an Irish author so I think that's where it came from. Anyway, Oakley is colored with Copics. I used the stars from Tami Mayberry's star set (GKD) for the embellishement (as they say, stars are masculine flowers). The sentiment is from Melanie Meunchinger's birthday set (GKD).

This card uses Daisy on a trike (Sugar Nellie). I was too tired to create a background for Daisy, but I did think she was just cute and my daughter is learning how to ride a trike. I used Bazzil wings flowers for the accent on this one.

I hope that the difference in colors and embellies makes up for the fact that I really kept to the same sketch. In retrospect, I probably could have used a scalloped oval or something on the girl card to separate them a bit more.

Although you really can't see it, there is a little stardust sparkle on the sunflower that was added with the sakura gel pen.

Snow Bear

Happy Wednesday everyone! This weekend I worked on some cards for the troops. Over on SCS, the WRAK group had a card roundup. They provide 12 challenges, we get to make the cards and then we forward them to OWH (Operation Write Home). This is a great organization. They send blank handmade cards overseas so that our troops have some fun cards to send home to their families.

The 9th Challenge was to use a new technique, Embossed Foil. This was a lot of fun. I will have to say, although I did add some ink to mine, I thought it looked really good with just the foil!

I also got the chance to use the stamp I won from the Copic Challenge forum party. It is adorable, isn't it? I just love bears! Because I wasn't really thinking when I made this card, I added flower soft to the hat and the snow. I'm not sure that this will be considered like glitter and not allowed or if it's ok. It does add a nice bit of texture. I will re-make the card without the flower soft before I send it off. Anyway, I hope this card will brighten someone's day.

It's time for another OCC Sketch! I just got the new Cosmo Cricket winter paper pad that I won on the Copic Challenge Chat thread. It is so awesome! Just had to use some for this card. I added the Bo Bunny DP for a little extra bling. I thought the green added a little pop to keep the card from being too purple. Though I have some friends that would disagree with the notion that there is too much purple... ever. I'm also running out of chocolate pearls, which could be a complete disaster! CardPatterns 79 - Thinking of You

This card was created using the sketch from the cardpatterns blog. It is Sketch #79. I also used this as practice for the Copic Challenge. The copic challenge for this 2 week period is to use blues and color blue jeans. I know I need to practice a bit before I submit my entry for that one ;-) So, the attempt here is to have the light source coming from the top left. I used the "nasty rag" technique on Mimosa's jeans to add a little texture. I'm really trying to make an effort at showing the shading. I've decided, while taking these copic classes, that I am afraid of shading. I try to really blend so the effect is sort of blurred (so you can't see my mistakes). Happy Labor Day!! My birthday last month. My daughter brought me flowers. If you only knew my husband. He and his family don't believe in buying flowers... it's not practical. *BIG EYE ROLL*. Shhhhhhhhh! new stamps!

I promised myself and some other people, that I wouldn't buy any new Christmas stamps this year. I probably have enough Christmas stamps to last, I don't know, FOREVER?? I've been wanting to try out the JustRite stampers for a while. I would forget, then remember.. you know how that goes. However a few weeks ago, I was reading Denise's blog, The Paper Landscaper, and saw that she was previewing the MOST ADORABLE stamps from Just Rite. I had to go visit the site... and before I knew it, new stamps had jumped into my cart.

Well, this was the first card I made for the OCC sketch challenge. This is a fairly simple easy to recreate Christmas card. The most time consuming part was coloring the garland border on the sentiment piece. That really didn't take that long :-)

StampTV Inspiration

If any of you frequent StampTV, you may have seen this card there. This is the card that I made for the 8/18 Inspiration Challenge. If any of you have NOT been to StampTV, what the heck are you waiting for???? I just love StampTV. There are great tips, great people, great projects, great challenges.. etc. So the inspiration picture was a Curio cabinet. The cabinet was separated into various sized and shaped cubbies. That is where I drew my inspiration. The DP and sentiment layer are blocked in the same way the curio cabinet was. In the curio cabinet, there was a small vase of flowers that were yellow and white. I am using the poinsettia and the brad to reflect that portion of the picture. Thanks for hanging around for my Christmas phase :-)

Birthday with MOJO

I've taken a short break from Christmas cards. This is a card I made for this weeks Mojo Monday sketch challenge. It's the 4th week so it was a circle or square challenge. I went with the square. The card is 5.5*5.5. I HAD to use my favorite Lacey nesties (shapeabilities). I also wanted to try my hand at the Just Rite stamp I got. Wow! If only you knew how long it took me to realize that I needed to put the letters in from right to left, instead of left to right you would laugh soooooo hard! I used the highlighting with nesties technique on the main image. I really went out of my box with these bright colors. I have such a hard time combining brights. I'm actually pretty pleased with this one. Definitely had to stretch and that's a good thing!

Fall with Critters

Let me start with my excuses LOL! For some reason, I was unable to measure ANYTHING accurately the first time day before yesterday. I really don't know what my issue was.

This card is a combination for 2 challenges. The Critter Sketch challenge for this week is to make a fall card. It just so happened that the color challenge over at stampTv was to use yellow, brown and ivory. I think those are pretty fall colors and so, the card was born! I used the new Lacey Squares Nestabilities, I have to say, that these new Lacey Circles and Squares are my new favorites! I LOVE them! I stamped the image and then used 3 sizes of the squares to cut it out. The second and third layers are all popped up with dimensionals. I hope that the idea to "spotlight" the image comes through. I found the DP at JoAnn's when I went shopping with my "evil" friend Lee who somehow always twists my arm and makes me spend money ;-) Isn't it GORGEOUS!! Of course I forgot to write down who makes it. I'll have to add that later along with a better picture if I can manage to figure out what settings to fix on the camera! Thanks for visiting today.

Our Creative Corner Sketch and Color

One of these days I may come up with some original titles. This is a double challenge but they are both for Our Creative Corner. This combines the OCC color challenge for this week with the sketch challenge. I really had a lot of fun coming up with this card. I pulled out my Gina K stamps again. This time, I used the Sending Sunshine set that was designed by Theresa Momber. I used buttons again too.. I'm abnormally pleased with using buttons. I figure I will figure out how to really use them well one of these days :-) I colored the main image with copics. I think, if I were to repeat this card, I might stamp the tree from this set on the Old Olive -- just for a little more oomph. Overall, though I'm pleased with how this one turned out!

Gina K Release challenge 1

Last Thursday was Gina K Designs new release. As usual, in my opinion, Gina blew it right out of the park. There are great new sets from all the designers. At the release party on StampTV there were some challenges issued. This is the card I submitted for the first challenge. The challenge was to use at least 3 of the following colors: orange, yellow, green, red and white. I opted for orange, yellow, green and white. My new Spellbinders dies (August release) had also just arrived so I HAD to play with them.

I found this awesome DP in the Cafe Mediterranean DCWV paper pack. Have I mentioned how much I adore this DP? It's soooo much fun! I came up with this simple thank you card that could be made into many different types of cards, very generic. The sentiment is popped up on dimensionals. Other than the die cuts, everything is just simply layered. One more for my stash... whew! My stash is finally starting to grow again. :-)

Butterflies and Flowers

In my continuing practice with Copics, I decided to make a simple card with a large focal point. I chose to use the Northwoods stamp Asters with 3 Butterflies. I stamped the image with versamark, then Memento tuxedo black and embossed with clear embossing powder. For some reason, I've been reaching for purple a lot lately. Not quite sure why. Anyway, I colored the image with Copics and just left it at that. I did have to add a little ribbon because the card just didn't look finished without it. :0

One of my FABULOUS friends sent me this cutie pie stamp by Whipper Snapper. His name is Conway Tweetie. I'm ashamed to say that this is the first time this stamp has been inked *cringing*. I'm trying to work on my coloring and thought this little guy would be good for blending practice. I used Gina K paper and sentiment. I love this sentiment because it's nice, but also general enough to be used for multi-purpose cards. I am wondering, though, what do y'all think of the button? I was going for a tire swing type feeling since it was a springy card. Not sure that's what I accomplished though! :-)
